First steps

Creating a note, adding structure, and where to go next.

A note is a stack of blocks: headings, paragraphs, lists, tables, images, and more. This page covers the basics you need to start writing.

Create a note

Press New note in the sidebar, or Ctrl+N (Cmd+N on macOS). Notes save automatically as you type.

Add structure

Type / at the start of a line to open the slash menu and pick a block type.
Type a markdown marker such as #, -, or > followed by a space to convert the line.
Select text to get the formatting toolbar, or use shortcuts such as Ctrl+B.

Keep notes useful

One note per topic. Use headings for sections, and move a section into its own note when it outgrows the page.
Write from memory first, then check. The gaps show you what to study.
