The side peek

View a note, card, or Soma without leaving your current page.

The side peek lets you keep a note, card, or Soma open beside your current work.

Open something in the side peek

For notes, you can:

  • Hold Alt and click a note in the sidebar
  • Focus a note and press Alt+Enter
  • Choose Open in side peek from a note's context menu or tab menu

For cards, open Browse cards, right-click a card, and choose Open in side peek.

Soma can also be opened in the side peek from the assistant dock.

The side peek shows one item at a time. Opening another replaces the current one.

Notes are read-only

Notes opened in the side peek cannot be edited.

Use Refresh to reload the note if it changed elsewhere. Links to other notes open inside the side peek, while external links open in your browser.

Choose Open full to open the current item in the main view.

Very large notes with more than 2,000 blocks open in the main view instead.

Layout

The side peek can be:

  • Overlay
  • Dock right
  • Dock left

Overlay mode floats above the current module. Docked mode gives the panel its own column.

In overlay mode, you can also adjust the background opacity or collapse the panel into a narrow rail.

Drag the inner edge to resize the panel. You can also focus the resize handle and use the arrow keys.

The panel can be between 400 and 760 pixels wide.

Closing and pinning

Press Escape to close an unpinned overlay.

Pinned or docked panels stay open until you close them manually.

Your layout choice is remembered between launches, but the side peek itself starts closed.
